Vintage 2015

The 2015 Harvest by Clive Coates MW

The bad news is Chablis. In the early hours of Tuesday 1st September a severe storm hit the Chablis area. From Irancy up to the grands crus of Blanchots and Les Clos a swathe of hail – some hailstones as large as golf balls – has affected some 100 hectares of the vineyard. Written Notes

The 2015 Chambertin from Domaine Jacques Prieur is a bold yet finely sculpted expression of this legendary Grand Cru, combining the warmth and generosity of the vintage with the domaine’s hallmark precision and restraint.

Appearance

Deep ruby with a dense, dark core and flashes of youthful purple, showing both concentration and vitality.

Nose

Powerful and layered. Ripe black cherry, blackberry, and dark plum dominate initially, followed by notes of violet, dried rose, and subtle orange peel. As the wine opens, savory and complex nuances emerge—forest floor, iron, cocoa, sweet spice, and a touch of smoked meat. The aromatic profile is broad, deep, and unmistakably Chambertin in character.

Palate

Full-bodied and structured, yet remarkably balanced. The palate delivers dense dark fruit wrapped in firm, finely textured tannins that provide both authority and finesse. Acidity is vibrant enough to carry the richness of the vintage, keeping the wine focused and energetic. Mineral and earthy tones—crushed stone, iron, and subtle savory notes—add depth and seriousness.

Finish

Long, powerful, and persistent, with layers of dark fruit, spice, and mineral resonance lingering well after the wine has left the palate.

Overall Impression

This is a classic, authoritative Chambertin—muscular but not heavy, expressive yet controlled. The generosity of 2015 gives immediate appeal, while the structure and balance promise long-term evolution. A wine that reflects both the grandeur of the vineyard and the disciplined style of Domaine Jacques Prieur.
