(a 50/50 blend of Muscat Ottonel and Muscat d’Alsace): Pale straw-green. Lovely floral aromas of apple, rose petal, mint and fresh herbs. Richer and creamier in the mouth than the nose suggests, offering apple and passion fruit flavors. The zippy finish shows a hint of salinity. Not at all bitter or herbal, which is surprising as this bone-dry wine has just gram per liter of residual sugar. The grapes here come from the estate’s oldest Muscat vines (which average 50 years of age), as the young vines are used to make the entry-level Fleur de Lotus blend. Josmeyer is famous for their dry Muscats, and this one is an excellent example. Isabelle Meyer believes that Muscats are best matched with cold foods such as smoked fish mousses.
