Written Notes

Pale golden, yellow flowers and fruits, popcorn, good acidity, but would suit higher acidity very nicely, balanced and long. 90+

First course- Mushroom "Tarte Tatin" and Woodland Mushroom Cappuccino with white truffle foam. We jumped into the dinner with this delicious pastry and mushroom presentation. The earthiness of the mushroom supported the delicate pastry, providing a combination of flavors that were a great match for our second wine, 2009 Far Niente Chardonnay. This perennial favorite from Napa can definitely carry on with earthy dishes. It shows bread dough, lees and lemon notes in the nose. The chardonnay makes a dramatic entry on the palate- a serious core of pear fruit surrounded by interesting notes of anise and herb. Full bodied and lush on the palate, but with enough acidity to keep it lively. If I had to find a flaw, I would say that this vintage fell just short of the full ripeness that this great producer occasionally brings to the table. However, that is a quibble and I'm sure that some prefer the slightly more austere version, especially with food. A great pairing!
