Written Notes

This is impressive but my vote goes overwhelmingly to the 2009. This has blackcurrant seed notes, earthy tones, spices, rose petal. It is ripe, perhaps a little broader than the '09, and an earlier drinking style. For me, it does not exhibit the structure of the 2009, but it is still a very fine wine. Good length but again, suffers in comparison to its successor. Some grip. A very pleasant wine. Grant was saying that he has two clones of mourvedre (or monastrell or mataro or even esparte, depending where you are or how trendy you want to be). The first is dark, not so fruity with structure and tannins. Some blackfruit notes. The second is from the Wilsford sub-region of the Barossa and is dense, though does not offer the same intense colour. It is a more vibrant, spicy, curranty style, especially for the bouquet.
