The 2020 Integro opens with a poised and complex aromatic profile: ripe black cherry, mulberry and blueberry are framed by notes of crushed violets, aniseed and subtle graphite. Savoury undertones of dried herbs, olive tapenade and dark chocolate add depth, while oak influence is finely judged, contributing gentle cedar, clove and sweet spice rather than overt sweetness.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, showing impressive balance and restraint for Barossa. The fruit is precise and layered, moving from dark berries to plum skin and blackcurrant, supported by silky, finely grained tannins. Fresh acidity provides lift and tension, integrating seamlessly with the wine’s natural richness and lending an almost Northern Rhône-like elegance to the structure.
The finish is long, savoury and mineral, with lingering notes of spice, cocoa powder and black fruit, underscoring the wine’s sense of place and maturity of winemaking.
This is a thoughtful, understated Barossa Shiraz, prioritising harmony and texture over sheer power. Already highly enjoyable, Integro 2020 also has the structure and balance to evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years.
