The Story

I named this bottling after the Spanish name for The Farmhouse, since our winery is designed to resemble a classic Catalan farmhouse.

The grapes derive from the organic and biodynamic Don Miguel vineyard is located in the Green Valley — the coolest, foggiest region of the Russian River, only ten miles from the Pacific. Written Notes

Named after the late patriarch of the Torres family, this sustainable vineyard is located in the Green Valley – the coolest, foggiest region of the Russian River Valley, only ten miles from the Pacific. Planted at over 2,000 vines/acre. The grapes were harvested September 5–26, then gently whole-cluster pressed and barrel fermented, using their own indigenous yeast, in French oak barrels, 40% new; they were coopered by Damy from the forest of Allier and by Rousseau from the centre of France. After undergoing 100% malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged on its lees for nine months and bottled in July 2018. The vineyard’s 30 acres of Chardonnay are planted with three different clones. The blend of clones in the 2017 vintage is 39% See, 38% Rued and 23% Spring Mountain.

Ripe apple and melon, touch of clementine, and a light sheen of oak spice. Invitingly ripe fruit. There seems to be just about enough acidity but still a sweetness on the palate that I find too much for this style of wine and too much for balance, giving a confectionary flavour. A little more obvious oak on the palate and then a creamy sweetness that is just not refreshing. The oak spice on the finish helps to balance it out but I find it too sweet, even if it is mostly fruit sweetness (I don't have the analysis to know how much residual sugar there is). Doesn't seem to have developed any extra interest from bottle ageing. (JH)
