Written Notes

2000 was the first vintage of Patricius. Furmint and Hárslevelű. TA 11.4 g/l, RS 618 g/l. Aged in glass demijohns (too sweet and dense to age in wood). Bottled September 2008.
Is it possible to describe a wine like this? Is it even possible, or moral, to score it? I'll try, and fail. It's a deep tawny colour, a bit like amontillado. It moves slowly, sensuously, pouring like syrup out of the bottle. One finger-tip drop tastes like the thin line between heaven and earth. There's a judder through the spine. There are so many flavours, but each one a pixel, each one into the next one – it's like listening to a great maestro play and trying to focus on every individual note she is playing. It's pointless. This is the essence of everything. The only way to taste this is to close your eyes, dip your tongue in it, and stop thinking
