Written Notes
“Olivier Collin owns 2.5 hectares of the six-hectare vineyard of ‘Les Maillons’ in Barbonne-Fayel in the Côte de Sézanne. As such, it is one of the Ulysse Collin cuvées produced in larger volumes. This iron-rich clay over chalk soil produces a powerful, deeply fruity Pinot Noir Champagne. Olivier acquired his new press for the 2018 harvest, which he feels further contributed to the increasing precision of his wines. Deep lemon in colour. The fruitiness is sweet with added yeasty complexity and lovely, perfectly integrated oaky whiffs adding further layers to the nose. Lots of red fruit but also generously spicy with dark chocolate depth. The wine’s fine, gastronomic qualities are amplified by the firm, yet saline palate. Soothingly creamy but fresh and tightly packed, it is a pristinely crafted, bold and soulful blanc de noirs.”
