The Story

El Puntido is an old word meaning ‘staircase landing’, similar to the shape that these lands form between the Sierra de Cantabria and the Ebro River depression. The single vineyard wines of Viñedos de Páganos represent the terrain that the vineyards are planted on. These wines have been in production since 2001 and the Eguren family have achieved quality vintage after vintage, and have even lowered the production and increased quality over the...

Wine Information

El Puntido and Calados Del Puntido are produced from El Puntido single vineyard. Calados Del Puntido is the entry level wine, from a higher yielding portion of the vineyard. The family considers El Puntido to be the paradigm of a mineral expression of Tempranillo, which is caused by the high proportion of chalk in the soils at this site.

The family strove to produce a world class wine from the miniscule Finca La Nieta, a vineyard with shall...

SPAIN VINTAGE REPORT 2018

Wines from Spain has released its 2018 vintage report detailing the performance of each region, with most reporting a return to average yields following a challenging 2017 harvest, which saw widespread drought and heatwaves impact production.

Written Notes

Purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. A wine with freshness displaying an aroma reminiscent of mulberries, raspberries and backed by hints of vanilla, caramel and mild spices, dark chocolate in the background. On the palate ripe tannins, mild acidity, elegant yet persistent, quoting red berries and mild spices from the nose, very convincing length.

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is ruby red, and looking clear and full. On the nose it is intense, complex, seductive and fresh. The taste is fresh, fruity, toasty, and dry, warming, with medium tannin, with silky tannins, and average in acidity, medium-bodied, with well-structured, complex structure and developing. On the palate it is layered and has pepper, spice, plum, blueberry, toasty, vanilla and chocolate flavours. The finish is long and spicy. This wine is sophisticated and excellent. I paid around 10-30€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years. Good value for money. I do recommend.
