Wine Description
The Story
Sierra Cantabria Selección is a red wine from Rioja produced by Bodegas Sierra Cantabria. The winery, founded by D. Guillermo Eguren in 1957, is located in the Rioja town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra between the Ebro River and the Sierra de Cantabria.
Sierra Cantabria Selección is a varietal Tempranillo. The grapes come from vineyards planted at 560 metres in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Laguardia.
Protected from the north wind by the Sierra de Cantabria, the vineyards are cultivated under a Mediterranean-Continental microclimate.
The development of Sierra Cantabria Selección begins with a manual harvest and a double selection, one in the vineyard and one in the winery.
Once in the winery, the must ferments for 2 days at 27 ° C with selected yeasts. Subsequently a maceration lasting 17 days is performed.
To complete the fermentation process Sierra Cantabria Selección is aged for 6 months in tanks and for 6 months in American and French oak barrels.
