Written Notes

Trading since 1690 and known as Warre since 1729, Andrew James Symington became a partner in 1905 and sole owner in 1908. The Warre family ran the London end of operations until 1961. It is believed that William Warre was the first to buy land in Vila Nova de Gaia to establish a lodge to store his wines.

Sadly, this was corked. It was not my bottle, but I was very disappointed as it was the first VP I ever bought and there are still a few somewhere in the depths of the cellar. Soon.

"Transparent dark red color. Elegant and balanced fruity bouquet. The palate also shows the typical complex elegance of the house, with fresh chocolate and a remarkable balanced-fruit structure. Long and multilayered aftertaste.

Very good colour. On the nose the wine is rich and ample, and just a little overblown. Very plummy, fullish, rich and quite sweet. A fat wine. Plump and voluptuous. Good vigour. Very good indeed.

  • 90p

Deep garnet. Very pretty plum and berry aromas, with hints of honey and toffee. Turns to custard.  Full-bodied, sweet and fresh. Firm tannins, with elegance and balance. Will age for a long time, but ready.  Generous, but subtle.
