Wine Description
The Story
100% Chardonnay
In Styria, the Chardonnay is called Morillon. The grape varieties are identical, but the character of the Morillon is independent.
From Oceania to France to the Napa Valley - the Chardonnay is widely used internationally. There are only legends about why he is called "Morillon" in Styria. Perhaps the first vines come from the eponymous French village.
There are many stories. In order to fully develop its quality, the Morillon needs lime-rich soils and a careful expansion in the cellar. We give it a lot of time, so the grape variety can work out their peculiarities best and reflect the origin in the wine.
Our local wine Ratscher Morillon carries "Startin" in the name, which means we want to point out the special barrel in which it matures. The Startin is an almost forgotten Styrian wooden barrel size of 600 liters, whose tradition we would like to revive.
