Vintage 2012

A cool, wet summer in Germany, saved by late warmth in September and October. Yields were overall in line with long term averages, although the Mosel lost up to 25% of its crop. Quality is widely agreed to be very good indeed, and dry Riesling as well as Spätburgunder managed to flatter early, but could be found lacking in acidity. To be drunk sooner rather than later. Noble sweet wines are in even smaller supply than usual.

Written Notes

Pale lemon yellow. Apples, some yellow fruits, elegant and nuanced nose. Fresh acidity, playful, elegant, nuanced, lively and very refreshing. Superb texture, long. 94

Tasted blind 2016.

Nose showing a beautiful play between honey, wood, and the "plastic" rubber i seem to always get with a Löwenstein. The taste is smooth and complex. i have always loved the wine from this wine maker, but i dont think it agrees with everyone. very much an "intellectual" wine.

Very crisp. however i would almost lean towards an off-dry. Wood. Honey. grapefruit. tangerine. The minerality in this wine is amazing. i could go on and on with flavours that pop out. great length.

My only bad note on this was the temperature it was served. I really prefer Löwenstein when it warms up slightly. The sweet fruits get to really shine and balance the wine out.

Fantastic as always.

drink now. but leave it for another couple years and some interesting things could happen. Im excited to retry this!
