Written Notes

98% Chardonnay and 2% Gewürztraminer with 98% of the fruit coming from Livermore Valley, San Francisco Bay and 2% from Arroyo Seco, Monterey, cooled by the morning fog that billows inland through the Golden Gate, pushed by Pacific wind streams into the bowl of the San Francisco Bay. 50% of this wine was barrel-fermented in French oak, while the balance was fermented in stainless steel tanks. The barrel-fermented portion was aged sur lie for 7 months, with bâtonnage performed monthly. The stainless steel fermented wine was also aged on lees for 7 months. Winemaker Karl D. Wente. TA 5.8g/l, pH 3.58, RS 0.5g/l. 
Clear coconut overlay and rich, ripe melon and pineapple fruit underneath. Tastes much sweeter than the technical analysis suggests. Ripe and full of fruit but not much finesse. (JH)
