The Story

 Clos Fourtet enjoys an ideal setting, with its 47 acres of walled vineyard atop a limestone-based plateau. Clos Fourtet was sold in 2001 by the the Lurton family for just under £42 million to the Cuvelier family. By lowering yields, encouraging malolactic fermentation in stainless-steel tanks and employing less new oak, Clos Fourtet shows greater precision.

Deep colour. Intense bright dark plum, dark cherry aromas with violet, camomile aniseed notes. Gloriously saturated palate with lovely inky density, superb fine powder tannins, roasted chestnut oak and long fresh indelible acidity. Superb mineral length. A star of St Emilion. Tasted at the Union des Grand Crus. 97 points

Dark purple red with violet hue and black core. Complex and expressive nose, aroma reminiscent of dark berries, plums, vanilla and mild spices, cedar wood and toasting aroma. On the palate very elegant but persistent, ripe tannins, sweet fruit, elegance and length. 96
