Laurent-Perrier Brut Millésimé 2004 offers hallmark intensity: mineral, complex, intense. This Brut Millésimé 2004 will pair admirably with a terrine of young rabbit with hazelnuts, a white fish soufflé (pike perch or sea bass) served with a citrus cream sauce, a fish or scallop chowder, poule au pot, or a fine, aged Comté cheese.
Serve at 10°C, preferably in tulip-shaped glasses rather than flutes, to maximise the sensory experience
Varieties: 50% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir
Crus: Laurent-Perrier's Brut Millésimé is a blend of Chardonnay grands crus from the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Cramant, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Chouilly; and of Pinot Noir grands crus from the Montagne de Reims: Verzy, Mailly, Ambonnay, Verzenay, Ay, and Bouzy.
The choice of a balanced, 50/50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines from the 2004 harvest proved to be excellent.
The 2004 harvest
The wine growing year began with a relatively uniform winter, followed by a fairly mild spring. The flowering season, although spread out, went off well. Hailstorms and gully erosion due to spring storms affected some 3,300 hectares in 44 municipalities.
Fortunately, in the space of a few days, the trend was completely reversed thanks to an Indian summer worthy of the name: three weeks of sunny weather with relatively cool nights, extremely favourable to the grape ripening process.
