The Story

The underground world of the House’s cellars reveals the full importance of time at Bollinger’s. Written Notes

Momentous, almost statesmanlike vintage. At that time there were grapes from the non-grafted vines from Aÿ and Bouzy in the vintage wine, something that is actually quite noticeable. The wine expresses Aÿ Pinot at its very best. In the glass, orange color and gamy, vegetable, and toasty aromas hit you. The nose actually resembles a mature La Tâche from D. R. C. The attack is enormous, despite the wine's meaty structure and rich fruit. The aftertaste accelerates in the mouth and it takes a long, long while before one is left with just the popcorn aroma lingering on the palate. It should be said that few bottles are this good.

The 1966 Bollinger came close to the ’61. It was rich and full with more orange flavors, but it didn’t quite have the length or acid of the ’66. It was still outstanding (95).
