The Story

Quinta da Roêda forms the backbone of the Croft Vintage Porto, produced only in years when vineyard conditions are optimal and warrant a “declared vintage.” Wines from Quinta da Roêda are characteristically plump, full and vigorously fruity, with the hallmark aroma of the gum cistus bush—a character that informs the Croft house style. Vintage 1900

Port Vintage Report: A great Vintage, in terms of quality and quantity. Delicate and harmonious wines though with less colour and body than the more famous Vintages. Written Notes

The 1900 Croft Vintage Port has a tawny hue with a green-tinged rim. It has a vibrant and fresh bouquet redolent of mature Bual but there is certainly impressive definition and lift considering its age with scents of dried fig, burnt toffee and ginger, then later a hint of marmalade. Remarkably the bouquet becomes fresher after two hours. The palate is very smooth, slightly viscous in texture with notes of dried honey, sour lemon and spice that are accentuated towards the oxidative finish. Yet it remains focused, vigorous with balletic poise and a gorgeous, almost honeyed aftertaste. It is a great Croft although it is not in the same class as Taylor’s 1900. Drink now. Tasted in the Factory House in Porto for "Taylor's - The Story of a Classic Port House" book.
