96 Parker points: A glorious perfume of sweet charcoal, truffle, black currants and spice box soars from the glass of the saturated purple-colored 2010 Opus One. The gorgeous aromatics are followed by a beautifully knit, full-bodied red blend (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5.5% Merlot, 5.5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec) displaying lots of spicy black currant fruit, medium to full body, velvety tannins, and not a hard edge to be foun...

The Story

Time is expressed in Opus One by the character of the vintage: sometimes with a personality that is highly defined and sometimes with a shade of difference quite subtle from other vintages.  Through the minds and hands of the vineyard workers we capture time and the essence of the season – coaxing concentration and tempering abundance.

Place is often defined as terroir and denotes the special characteristics that geography, geology and clim...

Wine Information

The 2010 vintage will be remembered as a uniquely demanding year with unseasonably cold days, untimely rain fall, and surprisingly hot days. Having left a sufficient number of leaves on the vines, our grapes avoided sunburn from late season heat assuring the success of the vintage. Harvest began on September 23 and concluded on October 23.

Aromas of blackberry, rose petals, chocolate and espresso accentuate fruity and earthy nuances. Round ...

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle and in an perfect condition. Colour is purple and deep. On the nose it is youthful, intense, complex, fresh and generous. The taste is focused, vigor, refined, with balanced, good texture, well-structured and concentrated structure. On the palate it is layered and has dried-fruit, port-like, licorice, leather, blackcurrant, vanilla, cigar-box, tobacco and truffles flavours. The finish is medium long, pure, flavorful and extensive. This wine is transparent, fine and fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 20-30 years and decant at least over 4h before tasting. Good value for money. I do recommend.

Aromas of blackberry, rose petals, chocolate and espresso accentuate fruity and earthy nuances. Round velvety tannins enrobe a silky texture with a touch of minerality. The flavors of dark fruit are enhanced by the well-integrated acidity. The acidity and tannin structure promise a very long life ahead.

Second time tasted this wine and no brett in this one! A powerful fullbodied wine that's leave it any chance to miss its wine region growing! A wine that you can enjoy from now but you have to keep it for years... just a lack of digestibility to my mind.

  • 95p

One of the best ever from Opus, it shows beautiful blackcurrant cabernet sauvignon character. A powerful and poised wine with well-crafted tannins. Needs about four years to soften.

  • 96p

Dark, intense ruby red colour. Reserved, firm nose with blackcurrants, cedar and spices. Full-bodied, intense and firm spicy palate with gentle tannins. Bit woody finish. Benefits from further ageing for at least 5-8 years. JL 90p (9/2018)

Deep ruby. Fruity, cassis, leather, ripe, nuanced, rich, almost minerals behind on the nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, ripe and intense palate, long. 94
