The Story

Belonging exclusively to Philipponnat, the Clos des Goisses is an exceptional vineyard of 5,5 Ha enclosed by walls, with an impressive gradient of 30 to 45°, facing full south, where Philipponnat produces the most powerful of Champagne wines. Always vintaged, very lightly dosed, this uncommon wine is characterized by incredible length and body, in which Pinot Noir characteristics predominate. This fabulous wine for great occasions, extraordina...

Wine Information

2014 was characterised by mild temperatures and frequent rainfall and a few weeks of high temperatures, a very solid vintage with good ripeness and acidity. Flowering began in June and summer was a combination of dry, wet and cold spells. Some regions saw some disease and Meunier in the Marne Valley didn’t have a great year and some of the Pinot Noir with its thinner skin made it more difficult for the red grapes. Harvest took place from 13th ...

Vintage 2014

This year was all about alternating weather patterns. A particularly wet winter gave way to a warm and dry spring. May saw some rain, and even though late June-brought about a minor heatwave, the remainder of the summer was moist and murky. Disease pressure was lifted but once again fine, hot September weather was able to save and concentrate the crop. A large crop (11,553 kg/ha) was picked from September 8th onwards. The year's biggest proble...

Written Notes

A brilliant golden hue with shimmering amber reflections, complemented by a lively stream of ultra-fine bubbles.

The nose is powerful and captivating, offering layers of ripe orchard fruits—baked apples, quince, and pear—balanced by aromas of toasted hazelnuts, brioche, and a whisper of flinty minerality. Subtle hints of honey, citrus zest, and dried flowers add complexity.

On the palate, this iconic single-vineyard champagne is a marriage of intensity and finesse. A rich, creamy texture is perfectly offset by vibrant acidity and a firm mineral backbone. Flavors of golden apple, lemon curd, and roasted almonds unfold, with underlying notes of chalk, smoky spices, and a touch of salinity. The finish is exceptionally long, leaving traces of candied citrus and warm pastry.

The Philipponnat Clos des Goisses 2014 is a bold and luxurious expression of the terroir, showcasing depth, precision, and age-worthy complexity. An outstanding champagne for those seeking power and elegance in harmony.
