Wine Information
One of the driest Winter’s on record. A poor flowering under wet and cold conditions, but the Summer of 1980 was hot and dry. When the harvest started on 29th September weather remained generally dry and picking conditions stayed excellent for the duration of the harvest. The fermentations were quite short, but the Port wines showed excellent colour and body.

A generally declared year, like the ’66, the 1980 vintage only became recognised for its real star quality years after the declaration. It was also overshadowed by the 1977, and as a result a real bargain at auction. Notable for their strong colour, the best 1980 Vintage Ports have a depth and structure that places them amongst the finest Vintage Ports of the post-war era
