Written Notes

Some debate about whether this wine was exhibiting any brett. It may have been more appropriate to discuss what level of brett. Rustic, dry herbs. Broad. Where is the focus? Too short. Some pleasant favours and certainly drinkable, but lacks any intensity. And no real length. Has to be seen as a disappointment in the context of what is a very famous wine. Must say that so often Sassicaia comes up short for me that I wonder if it might just be the ultimate vinous version of the Emperor’s new clothes? That said, the greatest Italian wine I have ever seen was a Sass – the 1985. If only they could all match it. 88

Magnum. The first bottle had slight TCA. Wonderful lustrous ruby. Beautiful. Perfect balance. Very clean and stunningly fresh. Yes! Some tannin. Neat. Same sort of build as 2006. Tea leaves and life. Racy and fresh. Almost minty. Great stuff.
