History

For most, Ceretto is predominantly recognized for its extraordinary red (and white) wines, estate vineyards, exceptional quality, unique and architecturally modern wineries, and design. However, upon closer examination you will discover a whole other world, where our homeland, the Langa hills of the Piedmont, is protagonist with its collection of rare and precious gastronomic gems.

The family DNA is engraved with the constant pursuit of excellence. In fact, over the last 20 years, we have extended our interests beyond the production of fine wines to include other local products and activities such as hazelnuts, authentic traditions of Langa, the production of torrone, or nougat, haute cuisine, the selection of excellent cheeses, and the importation of a carefully selected group of foreign wineries. Our land has undoubtedly given us a hand in this endeavor - in the Langhe daily life is made up of these rare and unique pleasures of the palate. We are aware of this fortune and thus strive to send forth this message throughout the world through our products, sharing and educating in the culture of good living, eating and drinking.

Famed Italian gastronome and intellectual Luigi Veronelli wrote, "The land, the land, the land, the land, always, the land." The Ceretto family has sustained this same philosophy since the sixties when Bruno and Marcello joined their father Riccardo in the family business in Alba.

The two brothers' objective was to select vineyards in the most historically important areas for the production of great wines. This idea, spawned by a visit to Burgundy, would prove the wisdom of the Ceretto family, placing their bottles among the greats of enology and elevating Barolo and Barbaresco among the most appreciated and prestigious wines in the world. The idea was revolutionary at the time for a territory in which the concept of "cru" was completely unknown, but most of all, it was a genial intuition. The most difficult challenge the brothers faced was the encounter with their father who, as was typical at the time, purchased grapes for the wines he vinified. "You are undertaking a difficult course, the land has never made anybody rich," he warned, but Bruno and Marcello did not doubt the potential of the land and stubbornly replied, "We believe in the land 100%. Of course, the cellar counts some as well, but great wines are made from great grapes."

And so, they began dreaming of labels bearing the name of the vineyard and also its image: "so whoever drinks that wine can see the vineyard from which it has originated. The vineyard is history, the names of the hills remain, unchanged over time, enhancing the quality and credibility of the wines produced here. You can search for, visit and physically touch a vineyard… always."

Winemaking

The Ceretto family is one of the largest vineyard proprietors in Piedmont with more than 160 hectares of estate-owned vineyards, located primarily in the Langhe and Roero region, including in the prestigious DOCG areas of Barolo and Barbaresco.

The Ceretto name is synonymous with estate-grown, carefully produced wines that express true varietal character with purity and elegance.

The family owns four wine estates in the Langhe, each devoted to the production of specific wines and each named for its geographic location: Bricco Rocche in the village of Castiglione Falletto, where single-vineyard Barolo wines are produced. Bricco Asili in the village of Barbaresco, home to the single-vineyard Barbaresco wines. Monsordo Bernardina in Alba, dedicated to the production of wines from the Langhe and Roero areas. I Vignaioli Santo Stefano, in the village of Santo Stefano Belbo dedicated entirely to the production of Moscato wines

The Ceretto family was the first in Piedmont to invest in the image of their wine, dedicating careful attention to packaging design and working with creative designers to refashion wine labels and bottles. Through the years, the family's attention has turned to visual arts outside of packaging, initiating collaborations with famed artists and architects on numerous projects intended to enhance the various family estates.

Ecological, sustainable, environmentally friendly, words that have become overpowering in our daily lives. We are all more attentive to our surrounding environment, to the wholesomeness and quality of the products we consume, and to adopting a more respectful and responsible behavior towards nature.

For those, like us, who have always worked closely with the land, respecting the seasons and particular characteristics of the soil, these are fundamental values that accompany us in everyday life. For a vintner, the soil is his or her greatest companion, to be taken care of, attended to, protected and respected. In recent years, we have commited ourselves even more. In addition to introducing solar panels that produce the energy necessary to power our machinery, we have initiated collaborations with international specialists on biodiversity for advice and consultation regarding the cultivation of our vines and work in the cellar.

Inside information

Each of the Ceretto family’s initiatives finds its natural setting in the hills of Piedmont, among rows of vines and wineries, naturally accompanied by prestigious bottles and excellent gastronomic treasures.

Wine and the culture that surrounds it are, for us, inseparable from the more general concept of “food culture.” However, in the confusion of the multitude of offers in recent years, the Ceretto family has demonstrated to have its own unique voice, always promoting original and innovative projects and ideas.

Convinced that enological research and the pleasure of a good bottle of wine are above-all a question of culture (and that the more informed wine-drinkers are, the more they will be able to appreciate the study, effort and passion that lie behind a great wine), the Ceretto family has been the driving force behind ventures benefiting architecture, music, and and art in general, just as the ‘patrons’ of days gone by.
