The Story

As from the 2002 vintage RODA II was renamed RODA. Once the 17 wines coming from the 17 vineyards selected for the year have been aged one year in barrel, it is the time for RODA and RODA I to be created.

In the blending of RODA, the wines are from plots of red berry fruit characters, with aromas that are to the fore, ready for immediate enjoyment, with sweet spice notes and delicious freshness. On the palate, the red berry fruit should come through, with a refreshing mouthfeel, length, silky texture and continuous volume. They are excellent wines for gastronomic meals, very versatile, go well with fish, roast meat or a complex casserole dish.

Vineyard: Bush vines older than 30 years, mostly in Haro and its surroundings. Average yields 1,5 kg. per vine.

Production: Alcoholic fermentation in French oak vats equipped with temperature control, followed by a malolactic fermentation in French oak barrrel.

Ageing: 14 months in French oak barrels (40% brand new and 60% second-use) and 30 months in bottle prior to its release.

Stabilization: Completely natural methods, clarification using only egg whites.

Alcohol: 14,5% Vol.

Formats: Bottles of 50 cl., 75 cl., 1,5 l., 3 l. and 6 l.

Tasting:

Colour: Intense, ripe cherry background and cherry layer.

Nose: Very good intensity, with perfectly integrated oak. Highlights of red ripen fruit in the cherry range. There is roundness in the maturation of the Mediterranean profile seen from La Rioja. Behind the red fruit there is a set of sweet spices that reminds fine cinnamon and cloves. Fruits and spices create a perfect harmony.

Palate: It is voluminous and full. Tannins are very fine and alive. The fruits that appeared on the nose are perfectly in the mouth, with the cherry at its point of seasoning as the protagonist. It leaves a long feeling of freshness with the memory of the cherry and spices in the background.

Harvest:

Autumn and Winter with lot of rain so the cycle began with enough water on the ground.

Very cold winter. Spring fresh at its start but it changed in May, which was really warm and made the phenology process progress (flowering 1st June). During May it did not rain at all, due to the winter reserves of water, it did not matter.

It rained in June after the curd. July was extremely hot with highs of 35º-37º and storms that left good rainfall.

Soft August, with cooler temperatures than usual.

Very early harvest, mid-September, finishing the 8th October.

A year of perfect maturation, with Mediterranean influence and great wines.
