The Story

Château Batailley, Grand Cru Classé 1855, is Borie-Manoux's and the Castéja-family's flagship. The name comes from the battle ("bataille") that took place there during the 100-years war in 1453. Written Notes

Earthy, mushroomy, truffley notes on the nose, as well as stewed bramble fruits and a fine vein of leafy character too. Quite understated in terms of its flavour range – perhaps only just reaching its drinking window.

A rich yet dry Pauillac that's now very attractive to drink and has a good harmony in spite of the generous alcohol. Long, supple finish. Drink or hold.

Bottle in perfect condition and with normal size. Looking deep, mature and ruby red. Open and complex on the nose. The taste is elegant, high in acidity, warming, balanced, well-structured, developing, medium tannin, sweet tannins, medium-bodied and dry. With blackberry, cassis, dried-fruit, earthy, spice, new-oak and vanilla flavor. Medium. Recommended. Fine. Not decanted, nice to drink and drink between 2015 and 2020. Costs about 50-100€ per bottle. Good value for money.
