The Story

Château Duhart-Milon’s grand vin is often described as a model of the Pauillac appellation. The broker Guillaume Lawton noted as early as 1815 that “it is very robust, with a fine colour, and quite pronounced sappiness” (he describes the “sappiness” of the Médoc’s premiers crus as “something like the odour given off by finest sealing wax when it is burned”).

Written Notes

Lafite's technical director, Eric Kohler, prepared the 2021 vintage for us to taste. We sampled the elegant and smooth second wine, Moulin de Duhart (88 points), the powerful and rich Duhart Milon (92+ points), the very complex Carruaders de Lafite with its splendid midpalate (93 points), and the multilayered and sophisticated Grand Vin (97 points).

Medium-deep colour. Fresh raspberry cassis, graphite aromas with herb garden notes. Generous and juicy with fresh pure raspberry, cassis fruits, fine slinky/ hint leafy textures and underlying savoury oak. Finishes firm and minerally. Very good density and torque. 81% cabernet sauvignon 19% merlot.

Ruby. Blackberries, anise, spices, liquorice, nuanced nose, scented. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, structured, firm with fruit to back it up, long finish. 92-94

  • 94p

Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Initially slightly closed, the nose opens very well displaying a fine aroma reminiscent of blackberries, blackcurrants and black cherries. On the palate very elegant with discreet spiciness, juicy fruit, ripe tannins and excellent length. A wonderful Duhart-Milon with the highest proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon since almost 20 years.
