Tasting noteBe the first one to make a 20s tasting note!
Average yield was 26 hl/ha. As usual this is not yet assembled and will be bottled only in May 2010. I tasted various different pre-assemblages and found it difficult to see much weakness. The wines were so much richer, more intense and better balanced than most of the other Châteauneufs with the exception of Rayas. ‘Gorgeous’ was my most frequently used adjective but others were: balanced, seductive, sweet, massive (oh no, that was the size of the tasting samples), revitalising, reverberant, structured. The final notional blend was much deeper than the Rayas wines, was both racy and rich with lots of both acid and tannin and seemed extremely promising. It will be interesting to see whether the wine gets its due or whether it will be affected by 2008’s reputation.
