The Story

Darioush Viognier beautifully expresses the eclectic and exotic character of this varietal. Grown in the cooler locales of the Oak Knoll appellation, with its dense early morning fog and afternoon breezes, enables this rare and finicky variety to ripen slowly yet completely, revealing layers of bright fruit, floral and tropical flavors which define fine Viognier.

Appellation: Darioush estate vineyards in Napa Valley and Oak Knoll

Cooperage: Fermented in 85% neutral French oak, 10% stainless steel barrels

Wine Information

Availability: 2,550 cases

Composition: 100% Viognier

An ideal vintage, 2014 was granted a mild winter, early bud break and consistently warm weather throughout harvest, yielding exceptional fruit quality on the vine.

The Signature Viognier is plush and vibrant, exhibiting an exotic and tropical flavor profile—guava, passion fruit and papaya blended with bright citrus and stone fruits. A tinge of acidity compliments the wines delicate creamy texture of crème brulee, and reveals hints of jasmine, orange blossom and clove.

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is yellow, and looking bright and medium. On the nose it is open, intense, youthful, ripe, fresh and generous. The taste is fresh, full, ripe, fruity, fragrant, toasty, and dry, and average in acidity, full-bodied, with balanced, well-integrated structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has apricot, tropical fruits, perfumed, floral, spice and waxy flavours. The finish is long, gentle, lingering, spicy and flavorful. This wine is wonderful, fine and fine. I paid around 30-50€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 15min before tasting.
