The Story

Richebourg is a king of a wine: the colonnade of the Louvre, the Château of Versailles. You are impressed by its finesse, its length and its delicate sensations, endlessly changing. The fact that no element dominates the others enables you to appreciate all of its aromas, on the nose and on the palate.

In any given vintage, Richebourg is always one of the last wines to be drunk. Not because it is too aggressive when young; simply because it needs time to reveal its full complexity.

The Leroy plots in Richebourg were acquired from the Noëllat family when Mme. Lalou Bize-Leroy acquired the old Charles Noëllat domaine in 1988. She bought the vineyards and the estate buildings in Rue de la Fontaine. Domaine Leroy is the second largest owner of Richebourg after Domaine de la Romanée-Conti – not counting the Gros family holdings as one.

Written Notes

The 1992 Leroy Richebourg had so much cedar that it almost had me in Bordeaux territory, but the rose, blood and musk said Burgundy. It had a screechy nose, and an even tighter palate, although the wine did open on its finish more. Red citrus flavors were present, and while the wine was big in true Leroy fashion, the vintage’s shortcomings were evident (92).
