The Story
The Hewitson LuLu Sauvignon Blanc vineyard is superbly situated on one of the highest and coolest slopes in the Adelaide Hills. Proudly single vineyard, LuLu articulates the perfect expression of this variety in what is now generally regarded as the premier Sauvignon Blanc region.
Winemaker's note: Bright green with pale straw. The nose shows aromatic herbaceous notes balanced seamlessly with hints of cut capsicum, Finnish blackcurrant leaf and freshly squeezed lemon. The palate expresses intense fresh grass and tropical fruit characters, leading into a crisp but lingering finish. The wine shows a precise balance of structural and natural acidity with vibrant varietal flavours, a true expression of the season and vineyard.
Vintage 2012
Lower-than-average yields in Australia, as across much of Europe. This was blamed on high winds, drought and low fruitfulness resulting from the poor 2011 vintage. Quality, however, was much better than in the exceptionally damp 2011, with South Australia avoiding some of the weather extremes experienced by other states. Strong varietal typicality is a commonly cited feature of the 2012 crop.
