The Story

Our parcel of Bonnes Mares  is a narrow strip of vineyard lying along the top of the slope and covering 0.36 Ha (0.89 acres). Half the vines were planted in 1988, the other half date from 1961 and 1980. Annual production varies between 900 and 1500 bottles.

The Bonnes Mares appellation sits astride the village communes of Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, it therefore presents characteristics intermediate to both appellations. The in...

Written Notes

The 2002 Mugnier Bonnes Mares that followed had nice perfume along with winter and matchbox to its flinty, stony nose. It showed some skin, just enough to keep it interesting, and it was beautiful, long and smooth. The moral of the story of the last two flights was that 2002 is greater than 1996 (93).

2002 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Open and intense but still youthful nose with ripe, sweet, though very pure fruit of red berries and forest fruit. Evolves in the glass and gives away more earthy notes with roses, herbs, chalk dust, game meat and tangy red citrus. Very elegant. Medium bodied but very concentrated and vibrant with favors that mirrors the nose but feels even more pure. Superbly focused mid-palate with appearent but smooth tannins that carries the fruit seamlessly into the long finsh thats sings with flowers, game meat and minerality. Very good Bonnes Mares!
