Written Notes

The 2023 Berg Rottland GG opens with a crystalline, finely etched bouquet of white peach, lemon zest, green apple, and pear skin, lifted by delicate notes of lime blossom, chamomile, and fresh herbs. Beneath the pristine fruit lies a vivid mineral core of crushed quartz, wet slate, and flinty smoke, unmistakably marking the steep, south-facing Berg Rottland slope.

On the palate, the wine is linear, vibrant, and beautifully structured, offering remarkable clarity and drive. Flavors of stone fruit, grapefruit pith, lemon oil, and crisp orchard fruit unfold with laser-like precision, framed by a firm backbone of saline minerality and subtle phenolic grip. The texture is taut yet polished, with an impressive sense of inner density without weight.

The acidity is electric and perfectly integrated, providing lift, tension, and exceptional length. Despite its youthful intensity, the wine remains impeccably balanced, with a sense of restraint and transparency that speaks clearly of both site and vintage.

As the wine evolves, nuanced notes of white pepper, crushed herbs, smoke, and wet stone emerge, adding depth and complexity.

The finish is long, mouthwatering, and mineral-charged, echoing with citrus, stone fruit, and a lingering salty-stony freshness.

A superb Berg Rottland GG — pure, focused, and classically Rheingau, capturing the energy and precision of the 2023 vintage. Built for two to three decades of graceful evolution.
