The Story

Château Haut-Brion is the oldest and by far the smallest of the "Premiers Grands Crus" vineyards of the Gironde 1855 classification. Château Haut-Brion is one of the few remaining family-owned domains of the Bordeaux region with a history going back to the 16th century. It has been owned by the American Dillon family since 1935.

Wine Information

2008/ A VERY GOOD YEAR

Beautiful dense red color. The nose is very mature and presents notes of red fruits dominated by blackberries and blackcurrants. In the mouth, the approach is dense and tight. Written Notes

(50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc; final blend represents 35% of the crop.) Fine black-red, really lovely, seductive small berry fruit, already satiny in texture on the palate with great precision of fruit, but also quite fleshy in a restrained sense, a wine of great breed and class that will show the earthy/taffeta style of Haut-Brion to perfection. Drink 2020-40.

Tasted five times - last time in September 2012. Consistent notes. 35% of the harvest into Grand Vin, 41% Merlot + 50% Cabernet Sauvignon + 9% Cabernet Franc. This wine offered more complex result than La Mission with more nuances, excellent balance, finesse, richness and very long, smooth and caressing finish. Stunning wine!

Ruby. Scented and layered, subdued minerals, cassis and some vanilla. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, lovely balance and very refreshing. Superb texture. Very long.
