The Story

Ausone owes its unique quality and longevity to a magic marriage of situation and soil. The steep slopes of the vineyard are arranged like an amphitheatre, facing southeast, which gives perfect exposure and maximum protection, and the soil is a mixture of clay and sand on limestone. When old vines and the ability to pick the entire vineyard quickly, due to the small size, are added to the recipe the result is something special. Ausone grows in...

Vintage 2022

Bordeaux 2022 vintage will stay in the memory of the world of wine as the exceptional vintage which kept a lot of surprises. The year started well with bud break at a normal date, so the frost in early April did not too much damage. The flowering started in mid-May and in optimal conditions. Written Notes

Ausone - 50% Merlot + 50% Cabernet Franc. It was moving around like a giant with ballerina steps, powerful yet elegant. Vibrant, multilayered, great acidity. Massive, refined, and sophisticated, with enormous depth and density. Long aftertaste, which won’t end. Future wine legend for sure. 99-100p.

Ruby.Blackberries, anise, dark fruits, liquorice, detailed nose, layered and nuanced, scented and bright. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, dark fruits, anise, some spices, nuanced, refined, layered and precise, long finish. Not the boldest in the vintage but has such effortless finesse.

This is really open with bright and flamboyant aromas of cassis and cherries. Blueberries. Some peaches as well. I don't remember a young Ausone like that. Full-bodied with flamboyant fruit and energy. Very fine tannins. They are there but you don't feel them. Supple but very fruity. And intensely fruity at the end. 97-98

Purple colour with violet hue. Intense nose with complex character displaying ripe dark berries, blackberries and damson fruit, refined toasting, subtle oak, hints of oriental spices and floral hints. On the palate elegant yet powerful with great precision and freshness, excellent depth and length, a wonderful Ausone.
