The 2015 Lafleur is a blend of 54% Cabernet Franc and 46% Merlot. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it's profoundly scented of plum preserves, chocolate-covered cherries and blueberry pie with nuances of black olives, lavender, unsmoked cigars and cast iron pan plus a touch of Indian spices. The rich, medium to full-bodied palate is completely packed with tightly wound fragrant earth, black fruit and exotic spice layers, supported by perf...

The Story

Between the estates of Pétrus and La Fleur-Pétrus, amid vineyards, stands a stone house with closed shutters. The road that winds to the house between the vine rows has no signs or indications as to the name of the place. The construction looks more like a maintenance shed for the neighbouring estates than the main building of a winery. However, this is a house that makes one of the most desirable wines in Bordeaux: Château Lafleur.

Vintage 2015

Complete 2015 Bordeaux report by Andrew Caillard MW “Next in line of a great series of vintages; 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010 & 2015.”

2015 is a wonderful Bordeaux vintage without the hype or hysteria associated with 2009 and 2010. The wines are generally expressive and generous with marvellous concentration and structure. Give another year in barrel, the wines should gain more fruit complexity and volume. The Châteaux, across all sub-region...

Written Notes

Dark, ruby red colour. Very intense, earthy and vegetal nose with blackcurrants and pine. Full-bodied, solid palate shows vibrant acidity, supple tannins, and dense black fruit character. Very concentrated and well-nitted. Spicy and herbaceous flavours black pepper and hints of pine resin in the drying finish. A promising wine that needs 10-15 years to start offering its best. For now, it delivers only half of its soul. So, lock it in the cellar until 2030-2035. JL 93p (12/2020)

Tasted four times - last time in May 2019. Not consistent notes. In April 2016, it was surprisingly light in colour, very oaky, fine potential was unquestionably there, but this wasn't proved at all during my tasting that particular day. 92+p. Retasted in October 2016 and completely another story. Iron fist in velvety glove, almost brutal at the palate with enormous intensity and concentration. Stunning richness, structure and depth. Another legend on the way. 99p. A tad subdued when tasted in March 2017, not as silky as 2016. 96-97p. After bottling, this wine really switched on afterburners. Thick, fat, lot of fruit and tannin, creamy and sophisticated. 99p.

The 2015 Lafleur has a broody but intense bouquet with exquisite definition and top quality Cabernet Franc showing through. This just has to be Lafleur! The palate is extremely well balanced with gentle grip, almost powdery in texture and demonstrating enormous depth and persistence on the finish. It is nowhere near ready but it will be a wonderful Pomerol. There is a sense of audacity here that is compelling. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

The rich, medium to full-bodied palate is completely packed with tightly wound fragrant earth, black fruit and exotic spice layers, supported by perfectly ripe, wonderfully velvety tannins and seamless freshness. The epically long finish delivers a sum that is greater than the many compelling characters imparted on the nose and palate, whispering promises of a whole myriad of provocative finishes to discover throughout this wine's very long future. This exquisite masterpiece is not to be missed.

This is a strucutred 2015 with lovely depth and intense layered flavors of earth, dark berries and spices. The concentration is deep with an aromatic freshness with a long, lingering minerally finish. This wine is mostly Merlot 51% and 49% Cabernet Franc.

Medium deep colour. Expansive and expressive wine with intense mulberry plum star anise aromas and savoury biscuity oak nuances. Vigorous yet seem less with generous mulberry plum fruits, touch of praline and vanilla and hint of graphite. Tannins are lacey and dry. Inky fruit pastille notes plume towards the end palate. Chalky al dente firm with a bitter chinotto kick at the finish. Understated yet gorgeous. 97 points 49cf 51% merlot

Lafleur Pomerol - 51% Merlot 49% Cabernet Franc - 14.3% Alcohol Tighter nose, creamy hints, redcurrant, this is layered, intense, with cool fruit, powerful but elegant big structure but coped with it quite easily. Really fine. 94-97/100 2030-2050

Ruby. Red berries, blueberries, fruity, scented, some floral notes, violets and minerals, seductive nose, quite intense. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, ripe, rich, intense, probably the most powerful Pomerol this year with L'Evangile, intense, some coffee and chocolate, cassis and blueberries, vanilla and wood, firm. Long. 95-97
  • 96p
Good looking normal size bottle, in an perfect condition and has by the neck level. Colour is purple and deep. On the nose it is intense, youthful, refined, fresh, rich and charming. The taste is focused, vigor, perfumed, refined, with silky tannins, full-bodied, with balanced structure and youthful. The finish is long, extensive, flavorful and pure. This wine is sexy, impressive and fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 20-30 years and decant at least over 4h before tasting. Good value for money.
