The Story

The red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Cinsault. Serge Hochar, who has been involved with the property since 1959, states that the Cabernet Sauvignon provides "the bones and the skeleton to the wine, the Carignan the flesh and muscle and the Cinsault the silky smooth finesse".

Wine Information

“Many in the wine business believe Chateau Musar to be maturing the world’s largest stocks of single-estate vintage wine. Written Notes

The next wine had a sweet nose full of caramel, tangerine and mint. This was a delicious wine, fantastic if you will. It had that Cali mint a la old Heitz, and it was gritty and sturdy with outstanding acidity. I found this 1977 Chateau Musar outstanding, although one found it had ‘a lot of makeup’ (95).

Moderately intense, tawny colour. Medium-intense and surprisingly youthful nose with vegetal aromas – cassis, earthy, varnish and sweet cocoa aromas. Dry, medium-intense, crisp acidity with supple tannins. Good fruit intensity – cherries, cassis and brambles with dark chocolate flavours. Alcohol is well-integrated and the finish is harmonious. Drinking best at the moment.
