96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The potentially perfect 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon is a totally dry wine, but the sweetness and taste of this wine's fruit is akin to a savory blend of a chocolate-covered, blueberry/cassis-filled candy bar and vanilla ice cream melting in the mouth. This full-bodied wine is silky, seductive, opulent, voluptuously-textured, and extraordinarily fragrant, expansive, and rich. In spite of this, the wine re...

The Story

Ann Colgin’s wines stand out as one of the most refined styles of wines produced in Napa Valley. They show distinctive purity of the ripe black fruits, refined tannin structure and extremely elegant flavor profiles. This wine makes no exception. The hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon from the Herb Lamb Vineyard, has been the hallmark wine of Colgin Cellars from its debut in 1992.

In early 1990s, Ann made a long-term contract with the vineya...

Written Notes

Explosive aromatics of cherry, black plums, cassis, roasted coffee, tobacco leaf, and bitter chocolate abound. Very rich and dense in the mouth, this wine has perhaps yet to reach its peak.

Quite deep, cherry red colour. Rich, intense and refined nose with spicy and jammy  wild strawberry and cassis notes. Full-bodied, rich and elegant palate. Rich and spicy. Intense dark chocolate flavours escorts the long and lingering finish. – JL 94p (8/2022)

(13.6% alcohol): Deep red. Aromas of truffle, game, licorice, flowers and dusty spices, plus a lightly vegetal character and an olive note. Bright and fine-grained in the mouth, with leather and game flavors to the fore. I find this a bit acidic, and the tannins betray a hint of dryness. In contrast to the Colgin 2004s that I tasted alongside this wine, the '94 has never really expanded in the bottle.
