The Story

The name " Ruchottes " comes from "Ruchots", the rocksfound on the surface at the entrance atthe lower end of the Clos. Ruchottes-Chambertin is located above Mazy-Chambertin. This appellation, consists of three areas, Ruchottes Bas, Ruchottes Haut and Clos des Ruchottes (monopoly of Domaine Rousseau).  There are two veins of rock underneath the Clos, separating it from the rest of the appellation. It is at the same level as Chambertin.

Written Notes

A monopole (just 1.06 hectares) in the hands of this superb estate, one of the finest in Burgundy. And from a wonderful vintage, the best after the great 1978. so much expected. A recent Clos St Jacques from this producer, same vintage (and from the same friend's cellar), was truly extraordinary – the reason why pinotphiles spend so much dosh, time and effort chasing great Burgs. So, much expected. Sadly, that infernal tree bark failed. Just a hint of taint but marring what could have been. Around it some good stuff. Hints of forest floor and compost. But not enough to save it. 80
