The Story

Colheitas are dated Tawnies aged in small casks. The minimum age requirement is 7 years, but the tradition at Niepoort is to age several more years before bottling. The wine takes on a Tawny hue. Wood and nutty tones are evident on the palate due to the wine’s slow ageing in old casks. Colheita goes well with dry fruits desserts and the portuguese "Leite Creme queimado". As a starter, the combination with foie gras is impressive.

Written Notes

Perfection in Port with incredible depth and intensity. Dark amber brown with a golden edge. Aromas and flavors of dried fruit, cedar, walnuts and salted nuts are mind-blowing. It’s very sweet and seamlessly textured. Orange rind, honey and mandarines. Goes on and on and on.

Fox red shading to bright tawny. The minute the cork was pulled on a half-bottle of this extremely rare wine an incredibly intense, haunting aromatic cloud was released. You didn't need to bring your nose to the glass. Spice rack, citrus peel and somehow ethereal raisins were some of the scents suggested. There is extraordinary lift and freshness to this 155-year-old wine. So clean and transparent, the port almost finishes dry. Richness and concentration are not the watchwords, no matter how high the levels of alcohol and residual sugar are analytically. Incredibly long.
