The Story

QUELLA is the name for the wine from a 9-acre site located in the eastern hills overlooking the heart of the Napa Valley.

The 2018 Quella opens with a strikingly pure and aromatic nose: black raspberry, crushed blueberry, red currant, and plum skin, layered with nuances of violet, fresh graphite, wet river stone, and cool mountain herbs. There’s a crystalline brightness to the fruit that immediately signals the hallmark tension of this vineyard.

On the palate, the wine is vibrant, chiseled, and superbly balanced, offering a seamless fusion of elegance and underlying power. Flavors of cassis, blackberry, blue plum, and pomegranate seed move with precision across the mid-palate, supported by subtle tones of licorice, black tea, cocoa powder, and cedar shavings.

The tannins are long, fine-grained, and beautifully polished, providing a structural framework that is assertive yet never heavy.

True to its site, the mineral imprint is unmistakable: a cool, stony, blue-toned minerality that gives the wine lift, tension, and a sense of verticality. The acidity is fresh and perfectly tuned, adding clarity and drive without compromising the wine’s textural richness.

The finish is long, layered, and quietly powerful, echoing with notes of dark fruit, crushed stone, violet, and savory spice — a lingering reminder of Quella’s unique slope and expressive geology.
