The Story

There are few places where terroir truly affects production but Château Haut-Bailly is definitely one of those. Château Haut-Bailly has a distinctive style that harmoniously combines classicism with modernity, elegance, finesse and softness with structure. The silky smoothness of the tannins echoes the elegant yet complex aromas.

Wine Information

The wines’ structure is characterized by a succulent texture and a very pure expression of ripe fruit resulting, in particular, from the alcoholic fermentation process, during which temperatures were kept at around 26°C. Written Notes

Tasted three times - last time in October 2017. Consistent notes. 60% C. Sauvignon + 37% Merlot + 3% C.Franc, long harvest between 15th September and 14th October. Very enjoyable wine with sweet fruit, smilling and having fun. Veronique Sanders-Van Beek told me during this vertical tasting that this wine never did close down - it 's been open arms from very beginning.

2009 Haut-Bailly Big and intense nose with dark fruit, plums, cassis, oak spices, meat and just the right amount of greenness. With air the spices becomes more dominant with clove and black pepper. Full attack with supple, lush, dark fruit, cassis, plums and led pencil. Big, dusty but caressing tannins that smooths out on the long finish and ads a spicy, peppery note. Smooth but very young. Drink 2020-2040 93p

Deep ruby. Fruity and up front nose, subdued minerals, cassis, vanilla and a faint hint of tobacco. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, refreshing and very long.
