Jim Barry Benbournie Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 ($120) – Clare Valley Cabernet with well over a decade under its belt is certainly something that catches the attention. This is part of the Jim Barry Cellar Release program. Would that more follow in their footsteps. Great to see mature wines in this condition.
Dark blood red with a russet rim, alluringly mature aromas emerge right from the start. We have hints of chocolate, cigar boxes, delicatessen meats, animal skins and tobacco leaves. The wine still has good life to it, focus and excellent length with a fine line of acidity through to chalky tannins. Surely still has at least five to eight years ahead of it. 93.
