An inky red with a magenta hue in the glass, this wine opens with intense aromas of rich dark fruit, sweet and savoury spice, dark chocolate and dried herbs. The palate displays concentrated dark fruit flavours of blackberry and cherry, supported by liquorice and
creamy mocha oak. Well weighted with firm, fine tannin in support of the abundance of persistent, lively flavour. A wine of great
power, length and poise.

The Story

Located 2 kilometres northwest of Clare township on the opposite side of the hill on which Jim Barry Winery is located, is home to the famed 'The Armagh Shiraz'. Wine Information

A challenging vintage for the vineyard with an extremely dry growing and ripening season favouring smaller and open canopies. The upside is that the fruit displayed very small and open bunches with good exposure allowing the development of intense flavour and colour. Careful selection of only healthy fruit with no shrivel at harvest produced a wine with dense ripe purple fruits and very fine elegant tannins.

Written Notes

Candied blackberry, boysenberry and pungent flowers on the seductively perfumed nose, enlivened by a smoky mineral nuance. Fresh and energetic on the palate; appealingly sweet dark fruit and violet pastille flavors show excellent clarity and thrust. Becomes spicier and more lively with air and finishes extremely long, sweet and gently tannic, leaving behind exotic floral and Indian spice notes.

The Armagh 2014 98+ points: Deep colour. Intense elderberry, blackberry aromas with very attractive toasty, grilled nut, roasted chestnut comeplety. Concentrated and elemental with intense elderberry, mulberry, espresso, liquorice fruits; all balanced with fine plentiful graphite tannins and superb toasty, mocha notes. Finishes al dente firm but long and minerally, A very expressive and expansive wine. Destined to be a classic. Leave for a decade at least. 14°alc. 2025-2055
