The 2021 vintage across much of California was marked by a warm, dry growing season with reduced yields and excellent fruit concentration. Cool nights and a steady ripening curve preserved freshness in Chardonnay, while the warm days promoted generous texture and richness. For Caymus, known for a fuller, more opulent style, 2021 provided ideal conditions for crafting a wine that balances ripeness and structure with polished, California sunshine–infused charm.


The Caymus Special Selection Chardonnay 2021 opens with a rich and inviting bouquet. Aromas of ripe peach, baked apple, and pear mingle with notes of lemon custard, vanilla bean, and warm spices. Subtle touches of toasted brioche, caramel cream, and honeysuckle add depth and complexity, suggesting a well-judged use of oak.

On the palate, the wine is generous, smooth, and beautifully textured. A core of golden stone fruit and citrus is wrapped in a creamy, layered mouthfeel. Flavors of pineapple, lemon curd, and pear compote fold into nuances of almond, sweet spice, and gentle butterscotch. Balanced acidity keeps the wine lively, preventing any heaviness while supporting a long, rounded finish.

The wine closes with lingering notes of ripe fruit, pastry cream, and soft minerality, delivering both richness and elegance. This is a polished, expressive Chardonnay that highlights the warmth and concentration of the 2021 vintage. It will drink beautifully over the next three to five years.
