The Story

Chateau Belair is now owned by the Moueix family, and has had a new name since the 2008 vintage. This is one of the best vineyards in Saint Emilion, perched at the top of the slope right next to Ausone, near Canon and above Angelus. Despite the brilliant terroir, the wine-making here had been mediocre for many years until the Moueix purchase. It is clear that Edouard Moueix is going to transform this Chateau into one of the stars of Saint Emil...

Written Notes

Excellent news for fans of flamboyantly flavored fruity wines from this property! Francois Mitjaville has crafted an iconic 2023 vintage! The wine had a powerful aroma of black cherries and violets. The palate was rich and seductive, with excellent complexity and seamless structure. Silky berries and grained tannin. Sophisticated touch. The finish was long and caressing. As usual, it was an utterly expressive effort from Francois Mitjavile. 97-98p.

  • 96p

Dark garnet, purple reflections. Delicate herbal savouriness, ripe cherries, hint of liquorice, a touch of vanilla and orange zest, inviting bouquet. Complex, juicy, highly elegant, fine fruit expression, very finely structured with ripe, supporting tannins, long-lasting, a balanced wine full of freshness and length, certain ageing potential; an unobtrusive wine for the table.

Blackberries, anise, dark fruits, spices, liquorice, fruit forward nose, detailed, scented and lifted.
Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, detailed, liquorice, detailed, minerals, nuanced, refined, stunning fruit and energy, long finish. Such precission. 98-100

Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Aromatic nose with ripe fruit, blackberries, red cherries, raspberries and hints of mulberries, refined spices quoting nutmeg, cardamom and vanilla, fine toasting and subtle oak. On the palate elegant with great persistence, excellent length, multi-layered finish, showing a very promising potential.
