The Story

Located in the northern part of the Pauillac appellation, Clerc-Milon is one of eighteen Cinquièmes Crus (Fifth Growths) and faces Château Lafite Rothschild across the Route des Châteaux.

Having become increasingly fragmented through sell-offs, it was acquired in 1970 by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, of Mouton Rothschild fame, as a doup with great potential, and he immediately set about renovating the estate, constructing a new vat house a...

Vintage 2015

Full report of Bordeaux 2015 by Andrew Caillard MW “Next in line in a great series of vintages; 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2015.

2015 is a wonderful Bordeaux vintage without the hype or hysteria associated with 2009 and 2010. The wines are generally expressive and generous with wonderful concentration and structure. Given another year in barrel, the wines should gain more complexity and fruit volume. Châteaux, in all sub-regions, are e...

Written Notes

Dark, ruby red colour. Ripe black fruit nose with nuances of moccha and dark chocolate. Medium-bodied, firm and intense palate with good vibrancy from minerality and oak. Long spicy and sour finish with cherries and cranberries. Drinking well already, but will benefit from some ageing. Reaching its peak in 5-7 years. Decant for 1.5 hours and serve at 17-18°C with roasted wild duck and cepe risotto. JL 90p (4/2019)

A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Carmenere, the medium garnet-purple colored 2015 Clerc Milon opens with expressive crushed blackberries, red and black plums and cigar boxes notions with suggestions of dried herbs, earth and violets plus a waft of dark chocolate. Medium-bodied, fine, fresh and elegant, it has a lovely core of very pure red and black fruits, supported by finely textured tannins and finishing on a lingering perfumed note. This is a very pretty, superbly poised Pauillac!

Tasted in April 2016. More intensity and concentration, better structure and longer on palate, than in 2015 D'Armailhac. Excellent stuff.

Dark purple red with violet hue and black core. Very elegant but persistent nose, blackcurrant and dark berries, overall sweet fruit. A hint of oak influence in the background, hints of vanilla. On the palate well structured with silky tannins, juicy fruit, blackcurrants and hints of blackberries, very pure fruit, discreet toasted flavour in the background and hints of minerality. Excellent length, an impressing wine.

Medium deep colour. Attractive boysenberry, cassis aromas. Rich and voluminous with boysenberry cassis fruit, espresso notes and plenty of mocha oak notes, fine looseknit grainy tannins, minerally finish. Very good modern wine with great density and length. 95 points
