The Story

Located in the northern part of the Pauillac appellation, Clerc-Milon is one of eighteen Cinquièmes Crus (Fifth Growths) and faces Château Lafite Rothschild across the Route des Châteaux.

Having become increasingly fragmented through sell-offs, it was acquired in 1970 by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, of Mouton Rothschild fame, as a doup with great potential, and he immediately set about renovating the estate, constructing a new vat house a...

BORDEAUX VINTAGE 2019

When I visited Bordeaux in early March, Corona was a threat on the horizon and France was more concerned about an air traffic control strike. Written Notes

2019 Clerc Milon 93-94p
Tasted in November 2021.72% C. Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 4% C. Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. It had a very inviting nose full of aromatic blackcurrants, well-assorted palate, fine structure and splendid concentration, fleshy and persistent finish. Similar to d'Armailhac but more subtle and softer. Terrific effort.

  • 94p

Deep purple colour with violet hue and black core. Well structured but initially closed nose, opens up slowly but very well, displaying crisp fruit aroma reminiscent of blackcurrants, blackberries and a subtle touch of violets in the background. Subtle oak, perfectly well integrated. On the palate a wonderful wine with very good tension, vibrant fruit, discreet hint of toasting flavour, ripe tannins and elegant acidity. An excellent wine with promising potential.
