The Story

The Sauternes produced by Château de Fargues is the result of outstanding gifts of nature and the motivation – one might even say the stubbornness – of a family devoted to fine wine, and an attentive, enthusiastic winemaking team.

Weather and growth cycle

The weather was outstanding and the bud burst very early this year. Temperatures were constantly above average (2° C higher than usual in summer) and even reached 40°C in July. A few showers at just the right moment helped the grapes to develop, and they were fully ripe in late August. Botrytisation began in early September.

it had aromas and tasted of super concentrated acacia honey, was quite rich in alcohol and had fabulous botrytis, big complexity and long aftertaste. Was as formidable in April 2006 with obvious aroma of walnut crème and brown sugar on the palate. Will easily keep for additional 10 -15 years.

0.375 bottle. Very dark golden, amber colour. Ripe nose of peaches, pineapple and citrus fruits.Full bodied , concentrated, still lots of acidity remaining.Medium aftertaste with an almond bitter note. Almost as good as the '88 , needs still alot of time in the bottle.
