The Story

Château Trotanoy, a famous growth whose soil was too hard to work (« trop anoi » in medieval French) is located on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux wine region on one of the most beautiful parts of Pomerol. As all wine produced in this appellation, Château Trotanoy is unclassified, but the estate is estimated among the great growths of the region. It was purchased in 1953 by the Ets Jean-Pierre Moueix. Château Trotanoy’s vineyard was one of the ...

Bordeaux 2017 - A year of contrast

Life is not fair and neither is nature. As the earth warms, flowering becomes earlier and the risk of frost damage increases. Few winemakers remember the frosts of 1991, but their legacy is still haunting. When meteorologists predicted a cold blast on the nights of April 27 and 28, there was a real sense of panic. Written Notes

Tasted in October 2019. Intense blacberries/raspberries, elegant and sublime, sophisticated, excellent structure and complexity, nother a powerhouse but rather finesse and subtlety here. Decadent stuff.

Ruby. Scented, denser, blueberries, spices, fruity, anise, some spices, layered nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, blackberries, anise, spices, juicy, layered, denser, playful, lovely fruit and liveliness, long. 95-97

A final blend of 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Trotanoy opens with expressive red and black fruit notes including redcurrant jelly, kirsch, Black Forest cake and cassis plus hints of roses, dried Provence herbs, tobacco and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied with generous, expressive fruits supported by plush tannins and just enough freshness, it finishes long. This is quite an opulent, decadent Trotanoy! 96-98p

Dark purple red with violet hue. Expressive nose with great aromatic depth, dark and red berries, hints of elegant roasting aroma and gingerbread spices. On the palate complex flavour with ripe berry fruit, discreet roasting flavour and hints of minerality. Fine acidity and ripe tannins, a great wine with excellent length. 97
