The Story

The Hill of Corton lies in the midst of a cluster of famous wine-growing villages – Ladoix-Serrigny, Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Savigny-lès-Beaune – with, to the north, the southern end of the Côte de Nuits, where vineyards mingle with stone quarries (Comblanchien limestone). The vineyards lie at heights of 250-330 metres and form a kind of amphitheatre not found elsewhere in the Côte. The Hill of Corton produces white Corton-Charle...

Vintage 2020

In Burgundy, the harvest is over for most farmers. It has been a year with a lot of heat both in July and August. A huge problem this year has been leaf-thinning and canopy management. Those who have not paid enough attention to the leaf-thinning experienced problems with sunburned grapes.

In Cote d’Or, it is especially the heat that has been tricky this season. First and foremost, some grapes have been burned by the sun resulting in raisin...

Written Notes

The 2020 vintage in Burgundy was one of the warmest on record, marked by early flowering, a hot, dry summer, and historically early harvest dates. Yet despite the heat, top domaines with old vines and deep-rooted parcels crafted whites of astonishing tension and precision, thanks to meticulous canopy management and naturally low yields.

For Corton-Charlemagne, whose high elevation and cool, limestone-heavy soils act as natural air-conditioning, 2020 proved exceptional. The resulting wines combine immense concentration with searing mineral drive.

At Coche-Dury, where élevage, precision, and purity reach their zenith, the 2020 Corton-Charlemagne is a thrilling masterpiece, uniting the richness of the year with the domaine’s trademark energy and cut.

The Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne 2020 is a wine of breathtaking intensity, powerful, electrifying, and sculpted—a Grand Cru that seems to vibrate with life. The nose is stunningly complex, unfolding in layers lemon oil, white peach, and green pear and hints of hazelnut cream, brioche, verbena, and acacia blossom. It’s both explosive and tightly coiled, the kind of aromatic architecture only very great vintages achieve.

On the palate, the wine is intense, brilliant, and perfectly chiseled. A wave of concentrated citrus and stone fruit: Meyer lemon, quince, nectarineis carried by laser-focused acidity. The texture is extraordinary:dense yet weightless and silky yet taut.

A spine of profound minerality, saline, glacial, and stone-carved, runs the full length of the palate. Subtle notes of smoke, almond, oyster shell, and herbal tea add depth, while the finish is monumental and endless, radiating tension, citrus, and chalk.

This is Corton-Charlemagne at its most sublime terroir laid bare, intensity without heaviness, and craftsmanship at the highest level.

A wine of both grandeur and discipline, destined to evolve over 20–40+ years, gaining layers of honey, spice, and profound umami complexity.
